At the 2025 American Music Awards, held on May 26 at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, legendary rocker Sir Rod Stewart received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor was made even more touching as five of his eight children—Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee, and Liam—surprised him on stage to present the award, affectionately referring to him as “Papa Stew”

Overwhelmed by the unexpected appearance, the 80-year-old artist expressed his astonishment, stating, “I’m absolutely flabbergasted. I didn’t know they were here—my children” Reflecting on his early days, he shared, “When I started singing in the early ’60s, well before all of you lot were here, the reason I got into it [was] because I had this burning ambition to sing. It’s all I wanted to do. I didn’t want to be rich or famous, and here I am a few years later, picking up this wonderful award”

Stewart also paid tribute to musical influences such as Sam Cooke, David Ruffin, and Muddy Waters, acknowledging their impact on his career. Dressed in a white tuxedo and pinstripe trousers, he performed his 1988 hit “Forever Young,” adding a folk-inspired twist to the classic tune. This marked his first performance at the AMAs since 2004

The award presentation and performance were highlights of a night that celebrated musical legends. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, the ceremony also honored Janet Jackson with the Icon Award and featured performances by artists like Gwen Stefani and Lainey Wilson
